Consumer reminder: be careful with these shrimps or prawns, they could be contaminated by a “flesh-eating” bacteria

Since Tuesday, September 10, the Auchan and Pescanova Krustanord brands have had their seafood recalled due to contamination with the Vibrio vulnificus bacteria.

Be careful if you have recently consumed whole raw, thawed and refrigerated shrimp from the Pescanova Krustanord brand. These have been recalled since Tuesday, September 10 due to the presence of Vibrio vulnificus.

These are the two-kilogram trays sold from September 3 to 6 in Intermarché stores throughout France. According to Rappel Conso, the batches concerned would be numbers 74366, 74700 and 74844, GTIN 3306080137061. The use-by date would be between September 9 and 16.

Gastrointestinal symptoms and even septicemia

At the same time, the Auchan brand was also impacted by a recall for the same reason: it concerns 400-gram trays of whole, raw, defrosted prawns. The batches were reportedly sold in all Auchan stores in France between September 27 and 5, with numbers 74246, 74205, 74452 and 74526, GTIN 3254562419603 and expiration date between September 7 and 11.

Vibrio vulnificus, the bacteria present in these two products, could cause gastrointestinal symptoms or even septicemia in the most fragile people. This bacteria mainly evolves in salty, polluted and warm water, and therefore parasitizes seafood. A human can be affected by eating one of these seafood or simply by handling it.

The government website Rappel Conso therefore recommends cooking these products at more than 65 °C in order to destroy the bacteria.
