Coronavirus: record de nouveaux cas en 24 heures au Brésil

Brazil reported Tuesday 34 918 new cases of Covid-19, a record of contamination in 24 hours, with 1 282 deaths for the same day, reported the ministry of Health.

The second is the most affected country in the world after the United States in terms of infections and deaths, is now 923, 000 cases of novel coronavirus to 45 241 dead.

Epidemiologists estimate that the figures could be much higher in reality, the population with still very few tests available.

The pan american health Organization (PAHO), the office of the world health Organization for the Americas, has once again expressed its concern about the situation in this country of 212 million people.

“Brazil has 23% of all cases and 21% of all deaths in our region (the Americas). And we are not seeing any slowdown of the contamination. It’s the same in almost all the countries of Latin America and some in the Caribbean are increasing, ” said Carissa Etienne, director of PAHO, during a press conference in Washington.

Brazil has struggled to develop a strategy to fight against the virus. The president Jair Bolsonaro, who has compared the virus to a “small flu”, has rejected containment measures implemented by state and local authorities.

The leader of the far-right argues that the economic impact of such measures can be worse than the virus and has boasted of medicines, such as chloroquine and hydroxychloroquine, despite the lack of scientific support for their effectiveness against Covid-19.
