Quebec reported 756 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday, a slight decrease from the day before, while two deaths were also added to the toll.

< p>The number of people hospitalized in general care units to receive treatment for COVID-19 has increased by 10 compared to the old one and there were 226 patients on Monday. 22 patients entered and 12 people left.

The number of patients in intensive care was 45 (-3).

In Ontario, the number of cases was also down on Monday compared to the previous day. The province that reported its first cases of the Omicron variant recorded 788 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday, bringing the provincial total to 617,803. Three more people have died of the disease.

The province also announced Monday that it was examining options to adequately protect Ontarians upon the arrival of the new variant, considered to be of concern, Chief Medical Officer of Health Kieran Moore said at a press briefing.

Accelerating the province's vaccination strategy is one part of this review, Dr. Moore said.

Across the country, since the start of the pandemic, 1,785,038 people have been infected by the virus and 29,633 died from it.
