Rapid COVID-19 screening tests have been deployed in all elementary and preschool establishments in Estrie, the minister responsible for the Estrie region, François Bonnardel, announced Thursday./strong>
All schools will receive rapid tests within 7 to 10 days, the minister announced during a press briefing in Sherbrooke.
“When a school will have confirmation that a student has been declared positive after a nucleic acid amplification test (NAAT) carried out in a designated screening center (CDD), all students in his class, even if they have no symptoms, will take the PanbioMD test, unless parental consent has not been obtained, ”commented the Minister.
Parents whose child has been in contact with a case of COVID-19, but who is asymptomatic will not have to go to the screening center.
Currently, 30 of the 60 outbreaks underway in Estrie have started in a school. All in all, of the 36,700 children aged 5 to 11 eligible for the vaccine, 9,000 have already received a dose or have made an appointment.
Areas still under surveillance
The vaccination rate of the population aged 12 and over in Estrie is still below the provincial average, recalled Minister Bonnardel.
Currently, 85.1% of Estrians are adequately vaccinated then that for Quebec as a whole, we are talking more about 91%.
The COVID-19 situation is always more problematic in the local service networks (RLS) of Sources, Haut-Saint-François and Granit which recorded vaccination rates of 77.4%, 79.5% and 80.2%.
