COVID-19: Ottawa will buy 140 000 serological tests

COVID-19: Ottawa va acheter 140 000 tests sérologiques

OTTAWA, The Trudeau government has signed a contract with the laboratory to Abbott for the acquisition of 140 000 serological tests to assess the herd immunity.

This is what announced on Wednesday the minister of public Services and Procurement, Anita Anand, at a press conference in Ottawa.

“These kits can detect the presence of a previous exposure to the COVID-19 and will be used for research by the working group on the immunity of the government of Canada,” she said.

“The information made available through these kits could also be valuable to estimate the immunity potential and the vulnerabilities of our population,” added the minister.

Héma-Québec and canadian blood services will also collaborate in this project of the working Group on immunity in the face of the COVID-19. Thanks to this partnership, Ottawa will have access to a large number of blood samples that can be used quickly to begin the investigation.

It is on the 21st of last may that Health Canada has authorized the serological test blood COVID-19 of the laboratory Abbott. It can detect the antibodies that can show if a person has contracted the new coronavirus.
