COVID-19: Québec grants $ 400 million for emergency preparedness for transit

COVID-19: Québec accorde 400 millions $ d’urgence pour le transport collectif

In a financial abyss because of the COVID-19, the transit system receives a sum of $ 400 million of urgency on the part of the government of Quebec.

Half of this sum could come from the federal government for funds previously announced to be paid to the province.

“Since the beginning of the pandemic COVID-19, all of the companies and organizations of collective transport of the province have maintained their operations in spite of a sharp decrease in clientele, and this, while respecting the health rules in force. Emergency financial assistance is a concrete gesture that will encourage a return to normal in terms of public transit,” said Francois Bonnardel, minister of Transport of Quebec, by press release, on Thursday morning.

The government of the Coalition avenir Québec has argued that the envelope of $ 400 million is in addition to the 614 million $ of dollars provided for in the québec infrastructures Plan 2020-2030 for the realization of transit projects.
