COVID-19: plusieurs points chauds inquiètent

It only took six months for the pandemic COVID-19 to infect more than 7.7 million people and cause the death of more than 427 000 of them across the globe.

Far from being contained, the health crisis continues unabated, with three main foci, which are the United States, Brazil, and Russia, countries that have as a common denominator of having leaders who downplayed the risks of contamination and loss of life from the start.

If, in February and in march, it was Europe that showed signs of shortness of breath with health systems are completely overwhelmed and deaths per thousand each day, including Italy, Spain and the United Kingdom, since the United States took the top of the pad.

Here is an overview of the situation, based on data from the university hospital and the John’s Hopkins university.

UNITED STATES

More than 2 million constituents, the american president Donald Trump have contracted the coronavirus, which is by far the country most affected by the pandemic. His closest pursuer in this dark race is Brazil, with its 828 000 tests positive. At the outset, the billionaire republican has talked about the new coronavirus as the common cold would soon be forgotten, but he had to adjust the shot since, to his chagrin, because the u.s. economy has suffered a lot and the new unemployed will number in the tens of millions. The impetuous leader of the greatest power in the world still refuses to give a good example by wearing a cover face. It is the State of New York, which has been the most affected by the virus, with more than 30 000 deaths, for a total, across the country, 114 875 deaths. Some experts do not hesitate to speak of the 200 000 dead in american ground.

BRAZIL

Led since 1 January 2019 by Jair Bolsonaro, a chairman of the extreme right who continues to deny the inherent threat to the COVID-19, Brazil is now the second outbreak of pandemic in the world, with about 829 000 infections to this day. More than 41 000 Brazilians have lost their fight against the disease and the counter continues to roll, the health professionals saying that there is a lack of fans to sustain life in the most severe cases, that denies the government. Brazil, which has 212 million inhabitants, has just surpassed the United Kingdom and its 41 747 dead.

RUSSIA

Russia has been slow to recognise cases of coronavirus, but it is now the third home pandemic in the world. The nation of Vladimir Putin counts, according to the official figures, more than 519 000 confirmed cases of the disease. The number of deaths is low, in the circumstances, and compared to other countries, with more than 6,800 dead. Critics accuse the government of under-estimating the loss of life, which have been revised twice in April, compared to figures first announced.

CHINA

China, where the novel coronavirus has emerged at the end of 2019, is experiencing a resurgence of the COVID-19 with a home in the country’s capital, Beijing. Eleven of its districts had to be looped and the chinese authorities may well be facing a new threat of a pandemic. Since the beginning of the crisis, China is slammed for not having taken the necessary measures to bar the way to the virus – this is the case of Donald Trump who is not shy to repeat it on all the forums – and experts are questioning its balance sheet, which reports 84 229 infections and 4638 dead. This low number of deaths is also lower than the figures of Quebec, while China is the most populous country on the planet.

CANADA

The situation in Canada is very different from one province to the other, and the country is the 17th most affected on a global scale. More than 98 000 Canadians were declared positive at the COVID-19 to this day and the number of infections seems to have slowed down in recent weeks. The country has surpassed the 8,000 deaths in recent days. It is Quebec and Ontario are the hardest hit by the health crisis, with respectively 53 824 and 31 992 confirmed cases, in addition to 5195 and 2507 deaths. Unlike many of the other countries mentioned above, governments in Canada have loosed the purse strings to help their citizens and support the economy. The country is now in full déconfinement gradual, but, like the rest of the world, Canadians fear that a second wave. For their part, the various public health authorities do not agree to recommend the wearing of the mask.
