The disease coronavirus continues to regain momentum in the country, Ontario and Quebec, the two main foci of infection, who are respectively reported 138 and 171 new cases on Saturday.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, the Quebec lists 58 414 individuals reported as positive to the COVID-19. In total, there were 5666 loss of life, including three additional deaths, one of which was occurring before 18 July.
Nearly 30 000 tests
Ontario accounts now 38 543 infections and 2759 death (+1). What distinguishes, however, clearly the province with the largest population of neighbouring Quebec, which is the number of tests that are performed on a daily basis.
The last count in Ontario state of nearly 30 000 samples, compared to 16 716 for Quebec on the 23rd of July, last date for which data are available. On Saturday, the authorities in ontario had surpassed the milestone of two million tests conducted since the beginning of the crisis of health.
Nationally, more than 3.7 million people have been able to pass a screening test of the COVID-19, to this day. As of the date of Saturday, the new coronavirus had affected 113 515 (+309) Canadians, including 8885 (+4), who have lost their fight against the disease.
An increase of the case “particularly disturbing”
In a statement, the deputy chief of the public health agency of Canada Dr. Theresa Tam, said that the “recent increase in the number of reported cases across the country is particularly worrisome”.
“We expected to see an increase in the number of reported cases, with the reopening of social spaces and economic, she continued. It is essential to act quickly to identify and track cases, and perform contact tracing to stop outbreaks and transmission of the disease.”
Canadians have made significant efforts in recent months to bar the road to the virus, but the situation is fragile and the COVID-19 is always ready to strike.
“I want Canadians to understand that, despite all of our successes, a single moment of absent-mindedness, negligence, and forgetfulness will be enough to compromise all that we have accomplished together,” added Dr. Tam.
