Cratère Surfaces, in Alès: the successful takeoff of a street arts festival that has become essential

Of the world. Even a lot of people! It's 7:20 p.m., this Thursday, July 4, on the Cratère square, in the heart of Alès. After Gérald Rigaud, the town crier of the Lyon district of Croix-Rousse, launched the Cratère Surfaces festival, the public only has eyes for the Queen-A-Man, who pay a beautiful tribute stage and musical to Freddie Mercury. The first rows are seated on the ground; the majority of the audience is standing; some climb on chairs to follow the show; two people are even hanging from the window grilles of the court. The success is indeed there. The team of male majorettes leads the spectators in a rhythmic clapping to the hit "We will rock you"…

Olivier Lataste: "I'm happyIt's going well& ;hellip;"

Olivier Lataste, the director of Cratère, has a smile on this first of the three evenings of the festival. "There are people ! I am happy. It's going well…", he declares after taking a quick tour of the city center and observing festival-goers preparing for their Cratère Surfaces launch party . He then indicates that on this first day, they have the opportunity to attend four shows…

The picnic is "a ritual"

At the same time, on Boulevard Louis-Blanc, many tables are already occupied by guests, who have come with something to eat or passed by one of the food trucks in place. There too, Olivier Lataste enjoys himself: "It validates the ritual of the Thursday picnic. It’s a moment of conviviality!" As he speaks, Gérald Rigaud rushes by. At 10 p.m., he has to read the messages that the Alésiens have left him and he is pleased to see his box "well filled" . This public crier, everyone is called upon to see him again. Normal, since as the director of Cratère says, he is "the master of ceremonies for the 25th anniversary of the festival".
