The COVID-19 has caused a sharp increase in rentals of trailers in the Mauricie region.
The holidays are just beginning and already it is almost impossible to rent homes in the Mauricie region. There are only a few time slots available.
“In June, we note a 25% increase in rentals and that is thanks in part to the small trailers, because one sees that there is still a lot of large models,” says the deputy director in MP Rental, Sébastien Millette.
So these are the small models of 4 or 5 places that are the most popular this year.
“People have a small SUV, so they want smaller models. It goes very quickly. I do not have any more until the month of August,” explains the director of customer service at MP Rentals, Julie Gadbois.
Disinfected from A to Z between each user, the trailers are only waiting for one or two days before leaving on another camping ground.
Closure of the sanitary blocks
However, some campgrounds have decided not to open the toilets and showers because of the COVID-19, which force the campers to be totally self-reliant.
“We are talking about approximately 30% of the campsites in Quebec who have decided not to open the sanitary blocks”, underlines the director general of the Camping Québec, Simon Tessier.
Of the regulars are moving away from their tent and are turning to the rental of trailers. For others, it is the opportunity to try camping for the first time.
“Many tell us that this is the first time they come. They don’t have a lot of experience, so it helps. You see that a lot more than usual, rentals,” says the owner of the camping Marina Louiseville, Jean-Claude Dupuis.
