Olympic champion and multiple medalist in road racing Jeannie Longo fell during a competition in the Loire.
An accident that could have had disastrous consequences. The 65-year-old rider fell on Saturday, August 17, during the Prix Cycliste de Lentigny, in the Loire, which was a stage of the FSGT (Sports and Gymnastics Federation of Work) cycling event, according to Le Progrès.
The 1996 Olympic road race champion lost control of her bike after hitting a pothole in the road at around 2 p.m.
This fall required around thirty stitches on her knee. Jeannie Longo had to be hospitalized at the Roanne hospital, also in the Loire.
Another cyclist also hospitalized
A few minutes later, another cyclist fell as he approached the finish line in Lentigny. According to initial findings, the 68-year-old man was seriously injured in the arm with an open fracture of the elbow and a broken collarbone.
The race was then neutralized for a few minutes while emergency services intervened.
