Forest fires: they're all on deck to fend off the flames
#LOZÈRE – All those involved in the fight against forest fires in Lozère are ready for summer! This is the joint message carried by representatives of the State, the gendarmerie and of course the firefighters. "It’is a whole chain that is working to limit fires and their environmental, economic, and even human impact as much as possible", indicates sub-prefect Valérie Fuscien, recalling that in Lozère, 1 534 ha burned in 2022, in 67 fires. Much more than the average of the last twenty years: 338 ha.
Increase in salaried workforce, industrial employment in the green
#OCCITANIE – In the first quarter of 2024, the number of private sector employees increased by 0.4% over three months in Occitanie, after a drop of 0.1% in the previous quarter. Over one year, salaried employment increased by 0.7%. The region created 10,600 jobs over one year, almost three times fewer than during the previous twelve months. Employment rebounded in the first quarter in the tertiary sector, excluding temporary work. This rebound concerns accommodation and catering. Scientific and technical activities as well as health and social action also contribute. Commerce remains fairly sluggish and real estate continues to lose positions.
In industry, the number of employees continues to grow, particularly in aeronautics. Over the course of a year, industrial employment is growing twice as fast in Occitanie (+2.1%) as at the national level.
Millau Jazz: a high-flying festival to enjoy from July 15 to 20
#MILLAU – For its 33rd edition, the Millau Jazz festival is offering a line-up that resonates with current events. “A program even more focused on sharing, with artists who campaign, who are often flouted”, commented the president of Millau Jazz, Gérard Tanguy.
