American actor Michael Lerner dies

American actor Michael Lerner, a veteran of decades in Hollywood, has died at the age of 81. 

Although he off Saturday, the news was announced on Sunday by his nephew Sam Lerner, who is also an actor.

“We lost a legend last night. It's hard to describe how brilliant my uncle Michael's career was and how influential he was to me,” he wrote on Instagram.

No details were provided as to the cause of Michael Lerner's death.

Born in Brooklyn in 1941, Michael Lerner's roles in theatre, television and film began in the 1960s.

His role in the Cohen brothers' film, Barton Fink, earned him several accolades, including a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1992.

He was also seen in the films The Candidate (1972), Godzilla (1998), Elf (2003) and X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014).

On television, Michael Lerner participated in several popular series such as The Brady Bunch , M*A*S*H, The A-Team, Clueless, Law & Order, Entourage and Glee.
