Ce jeudi 21 mars 2024, Frédéric Mitterrand, l’ancien ministre de la Culture entre 2009 et 2012 sous Nicolas Sarkozy, est mort à l’âge de 76 ans.

French television host and politician Frédéric Mitterrand died this Thursday March 21, 2024 at the age of 76, according to his family, reports BFMTV.

"An aggressive cancer"

He was the nephew of the former President of the Republic François Mitterrand, he was also Minister of Culture in the government of François Fillon under the presidency of Nicolas Sarkozy from 2009 to 2012 The man who passed away this Thursday had worked in the cinema, as a television host-producer, director of documentaries and films before taking up his political functions.

"He had been battling an aggressive cancer for several months", details a press release from the family, relayed by the news channel.  "I don't have much time left to try to make the life I've had and the way I feel, into something that defies death", he confided to Marc-Olivier in 2015.

Five years later, Frédéric Mitterrand was installed at the Academy of Fine Arts, in the chair previously occupied by the actress Jeanne Moreau, in the cinema section and the ;#39;audiovisual, reports AFP.

Nicolas Sarkozy quickly reacted on X (ex-Twitter) to this announcement. "He was a deeply cultivated and delicate man, a being apart, sensitive and endearing, an unclassifiable personality so far from partisan life", he wrote. "He will leave his films, his books, his broadcasts as so many testimonies of his love for art and culture& quot;, continued the former President of the Republic.

He then presented, in his name and that of his partner Crala Bruni, condolences to the family and loved ones.
