Pendant l’été, en plus de l’exposition permanente, le musée de l’éphèbe propose des ateliers ludiques pour les enfants.
What if, instead of equipping yourself with a mask and snorkel to explore the seabed, you decided this time to dive into the captivating world of the Musée de l'Éphèbe? This is the challenge that Juliette Andreu, mediator at the Musée de l'Éphèbe and underwater archaeology in Cap d'Agde, has set herself. Throughout the summer, she runs workshops specially designed for younger children, inviting them to discover history in a fun and interactive way.
A fun discovery of the museum
"Do you know how we can observe the evolution of the Agde coastline ?", asks Juliette, addressing the children. The question is not the easiest, but the mediator answers it with humor: “Thanks to this big tube that we call a carrot!” This is how the exploration of the different layers of sediment that have accumulated over time begins, a start to an experience that never fails to impress young visitors.
As the visit progresses, the children discover the Agde coastline, guided by Juliette's comments and a few anecdotes. “These workshops were designed to introduce the museum to a young audience in an interactive way, breaking with traditional mediation, which is often only written and contemplative”, she explains.
Budding geomorphologists
After wandering through the temporary exhibition “Rivâges: 20,000 years of evolution of the coastal landscape”, which serves as an introduction to the animation, the children now enter the laboratory and put on their geomorphologists' coats.
Geomorphologists take soil samples to analyze them and understand past landscapes. Under Juliette's guidance, the young scientists follow different steps: “You have in front of you binocular magnifying glasses and various samples. Observe them carefully, then analyze them using the identification table. Then, group all your discoveries together in an analysis sheet.
An educational and practical workshop that allows children to immerse themselves in history in a concrete way. “This is our way of introducing them to the museum and getting them used to this practice”, concludes Juliette Andreu, delighted to see these apprentice geomorphologists flourish.
