SAINT-BONIFACE – A derailment followed by a fire occurred Sunday afternoon in Saint-Boniface, Mauricie.
About nine cars left the tracks of the Canadian National (CN) to the north of this village near Shawinigan. A small fire started in the scrub to the result of the derailment, but was able to be quickly contained by local firefighters.
Emergency-Environment announced that it had sent a team to the scene of a “train derailment involving petroleum products”.
However, a spokesman for CN, Jonathan Abecassis, has assured that no wagon containing petroleum products or other hazardous products are involved in the derailment, which did not hurt.
“The cause of this incident is under investigation and CN wishes to apologize for the impact and inconvenience caused,” said Mr. Abecassis.
