The head of the Ensemble pour Sète list, Véronique Calueba, responds to Philippe Carabasse and Laurent Hercé who, Monday January 8, admitted in Midi Libre to wondering about the continuation of their commitment within the Ensemble pour Sète. #39;municipal opposition. The elected official calls for a sense of collectiveness and unity.

Monday January 8, we revealed in our columns the positions of Philippe Carabasse and Laurent Hercé, members of the left-wing municipal opposition group Ensemble pour Sète. The two elected green representatives had notably displayed their disagreement with the principle of the alternative municipal council, which was at the origin of Véronique Calueba, their head of the list.

"What an incredible contradiction!"

In a press release, the latter deplores seeing these two elected officials stand out “against a backdrop of denigration of our action”. "What a fly has stung them ?! How could a single alternative municipal council endanger our unitary coalition ? […] That some of us did not understand the interest, that they did not find the ostensibly theatrical form to their liking, I regret it but I can very well admit it. But to make it a bone of contention between us, to qualify it as an act contrary to the principles of the Republic, what an incredible contradiction!"

A call to the sense of collectiveness on the left and to unity

The vice-president of the departmental council wonders, implicitly, what her two comrades from the opposition wanted to say. "Should democracy be limited to the cozy rooms of the town hall ? Is the only democratic moment in the life of a city a municipal council behind closed doors where the public is banned ?"

"In a period where the right is weakened, the mayor in poor legal position…"

She calls, finally, for awareness and a sense of collectiveness on the left. "In a period where the right is weakened, the mayor in poor legal position and the extreme right on the lookout, the opposition must strengthen itself and propose a common construction to counter the’ rsquo;deleterious action by the municipal team in place. We found a base of common values to defend during the last municipal elections. Everyone can also defend their own positions and have differences, but the base remains. This is the only way to reach the city." It now remains to be seen whether this base is still able to continue.
