“Dogs allowed, no children”: the internal rules of a bar outrage Internet users and provoke heated controversy

En place depuis plus de 10 ans, la politique de ce pub de Londres au Royaume-Uni, a provoqué une vive polémique sur les réseaux sociaux dernièrement.

David Worcester, owner of a pub in St Albans in London, did not imagine that his internal rules would provoke so many reactions.

A policy in place for 11 years

The story dates back to a photo published on X (formerly Twitter) on April 14 in which a young man declares having found his new bar. The image shows him crouching near a bar sign on which it is written: "Dog friendly, child free " which means in French, "Dogs allowed, no children".

Written by a client, this simple post has garnered no less than 75 million views, 58,000 likes and more than 3,000 comments. Some are outraged, others applaud the initiative. However, as the owner of the pub "Lower Red Lion" at Guardian, the sign would have been there "for about 11 years" without any resident of the neighborhood finding anything to complain about.

David Worcester adding that this policy was the same as in the other establishment he previously managed.

A serene environment

The pub owner wants to preserve the serenity of his bar: "Ie just want to create an environment where my customers can sit and relax, it only takes one child to kick off for everyone to suffer".

He told BBC Three Counties Radio that he had "no objection to children going to another pub, ever , but I don't want them to frequent mine".

Faced with criticism, mainly international and coming from people who have never frequented the bar, David Worcester assumes his policy: "There is more than 40 pubs in St Albans, customers are spoiled for choice", he emphasizes.
