Dollarama will offer a new bonus to its 26,000 employees as a “thank you for their dedication” since the start of the pandemic.
The Montreal-based retailer announced on Wednesday that it had achieved sales of $ 1.06 billion in the space of three months. This is an increase of 12.3%.
“I want to recognize the efforts and dedication of our employees, because the pandemic has become our new reality,” said the president and CEO of the chain, Neil Rossy in a statement.
Full-time workers across Canada will soon receive a check for $ 300 and part-time workers $ 200.
In March, in the wake of the spread of COVID-19, Dollarama also set up a bonus system for its employees at the front. This benefit amounted to 10% of each employee’s hourly wage.
In mid-June, remember that around sixty workers from the company listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange demonstrated in Quebec to demand better health and safety measures.
Not the first
Dollarama is not the first retailer to return to premiums since the start of the second wave of the pandemic.
Lowe’s, owner of RONA and Réno-Dépôt, has notably maintained the payment of its bonuses since the spring. Last week, Walmart Canada announced a bonus of $ 250 to its full-time workers and $ 150 to part-time workers on December 11.
Recently, Empire Company, the parent company of Sobeys (IGA), also resumed distributing bonuses to its frontline employees in Manitoba and parts of Ontario due to lockdowns.
On Wednesday, Dollarama released financial results for its third quarter ended November 1. During this period, management claims to have opened 19 new stores, bringing the total number of openings since the start of its fiscal year to 42.
Management mentions that the 12.3% increase in sales during the last quarter is mainly due to the opening of these new branches. The chain also notes that it recorded an increase in sales of seasonal items as well as essential household products, hygiene and beauty, and cleaning.
For its full 2021 fiscal year, Dollarama recorded sales of $ 2.92 billion and its net income was $ 390 million.
