The National Hockey League (NHL) opened its 2022-2023 season with two games in Europe, specifically in Prague, Czechia, on Friday and Saturday, but these duels involving the San Jose Sharks and the Nashville Predators didn't make everyone happy.

Former goaltender Dominik Hasek, among others, would have liked some players not to have the privilege of jumping on the ice during the double program, the Russian skaters.

Hasek even demanded that the bosses of the Bettman circuit resign immediately.

“The NHL officials did not respect our Foreign Ministry's position that Russian players should not play, said the 57-year-old former Czech athlete. Until the leaders of the NHL resign and the new ones apologize to our country, the NHL will not be welcome in the Czech Republic.”

Relations are strained between several countries and Russia since the latter started a war against Ukraine, several Russian athletes have even been banned from certain competitions in recent months.

Very few Russians were in action in the Czech Republic for the Global Series duels , but the Predators allowed striker Yakov Trenin to play, while the Sharks offered the privilege to striker Evgeny Svechnikov.
