Don Juan back in Quebec in the summer of 2024

UPGRADE DAY

Twenty years after its creation, Don Juan will return to seduce Quebec. A new version of the musical will hit the road in the province in the summer of 2024.

After Notre-Dame de Parislast summer, Quebec audiences will be able to rediscover another stage classic with the great return of Félix Gray's musical. It was the success of the work by Luc Plamondon and Ricard Cocciante that encouraged producer Paul Dupont-Hébert to set in motion this new version of Don Juan.

< p>“Don Juan is a fantastic work and unforgettable songs. In fact, it's just as big – if not bigger! – that Notre-Dame de Paris. With the musicians on stage, the dancers and the singers, it's a team of 70 to 80 people who will hit the road,” explains the producer.

This route will start in Ottawa on July 31, 2024. It will then pass through Montreal and Quebec, before ending in Trois-Rivières in September.

Until then, the production team will be in charge of building its new distribution through auditions which will start in the spring. Paul Dupont-Hébert promises to assemble a “hybrid of the greatest voices of Quebec, the Francophonie and the international”, as he did with Notre-Dame de Paris

Career booster

First created on record in 2003, Don Juanmade the leap to the stage the following year with a world premiere held at the Théâtre St-Denis in Montreal. The show had, at the time, made it possible to reveal to the Quebec public the singers Jean-François Breau and Marie-Ève Janvier. Over the years, its cast has welcomed artists such as Mario Pelchat, Jonathan Roy, Natasha St-Pier, Robert Marien, Cindy Daniel and Étienne Drapeau.

It is, however, in a revamped version that it will return to the poster to mark its 20th anniversary, in 2024.

“We don't change a winning formula, says Paul Dupont-Hébert. But we will revisit the musical arrangements to refresh them and allow people to rediscover these songs that marked the Quebec imagination. »

A new album will be launched in the wake of this new tour.

Tickets for the performances in Montreal, Quebec City and Trois-Rivières will be on sale this week. For all the details: donjuan2024.ca
