Double murder in Sept-Îles: the relatives of the victims shaken

“It’s like a horror movie.” The relatives of a young woman and a 2-year-old girl killed in Sept-Îles struggle to realize the magnitude of the drama in which they are plunged since Monday. The alleged perpetrator of this double murder, a 24-year-old man from the region, faces two charges of second degree murder in this terrible story.

A publication ban makes it impossible to disclose the names of victims and the link between them. “It’s a chapter we escaped. We did not see that coming, “said a cousin, still in shock, who is still trying to explain the inexplicable. “Nothing could allow us to predict that,” she said.

In Sept-Îles, the events shake everyone. In the early evening of Tuesday, dozens of people gathered in memory of the two victims. Numerous soft toys and flowers were placed on the floor in an improvised memorial just in front of the apartment block on Brochu Street that was the scene of the crime.

Relatives, friends and citizens of the City of the North Shore gathered for long minutes. White and pink balloons were also dropped. “It was a pearl. I still have the misery to believe that she left, “said a friend of the young woman at La Presse .

“She was a sweet, thin, loving woman who would have done everything for her children.”

The 25-year-old woman from the Lower North Shore was the mother of five children. According to our information, the siblings found refuge in the immediate family. “I kept her when she was a child and later she was the guardian of mine. She was a caring mother who participated and became involved in the lives of her children, “said her cousin.

Charges of murder

Ronald Henry Tooma was accused on Tuesday of the second degree murder of the young woman and the girl. The Sûreté du Québec did not disclose information about the cause of the death of the woman and the girl. The man remained detained. He must return to justice on Friday.
