Drama in Amqui: Did the suspect also target a school?

The Sûreté du Québec is investigating the possibility that the accused in the Amqui tragedy wanted to attack the students of his former high school before mowing down a dozen of his fellow citizens on Route 132.

Steeve Gagnon was captured by surveillance cameras at Armand-Saint-Onge school. According to sources consulted by our Office of Investigation, he would have traveled slowly on school grounds in his van before continuing on his way to a busier place.

The police have their possession of the video files from these cameras and attempt to analyze the images.

“One thing is certain, he went to visit the courtyard of his old school a few minutes before heading to Boulevard Saint-Benoît Ouest,” says a source.

It also appears that investigators attempt to link the images of Gagnon captured at the school of the Monts-et-Marées School Service Center and his real intention to cause victims there.

According to the 2022 school calendar- 2023, the school was on pedagogical stop the day of the tragedy. The students were therefore on leave.

The Sûreté du Québec, responsible for the investigation, refuses to confirm this information.

In the days following the tragedy which occurred at the beginning of last week, information had circulated in the region concerning the passage of the accused in the school area.

Many questions remain about the motives of the accused.

The alleged murderer of Amqui made completely rambling, even delusional remarks on social networks in the hours leading up to the tragedy.

On his TikTok account, Steeve Gagnon spoke incoherently on several subjects, including organized crime, “Chinese police stations” and unions, trying to make connections between them.
