While most cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the 18 to 49 year olds in the eastern Townships, it is clearly in the elderly that the virus was the more dangerous.
In the 70 years and over who have caught the disease, half of them had to be hospitalized, says a study by the regional directorate of public health unveiled Monday.
This extensive study was conducted among 872 cases of COVID-19 reported in the eastern Townships between 11 march and 5 may. Several interesting elements emerge.
For example, 26% of the cases have caught the virus by a member of their family, 19% at work (excluding the health system), 15% in travel and 14% in health care (employees and patients).
The main symptoms are known for a time: cough, loss of sense of smell and taste, fever, breathing difficulties. But the researchers of the Estrie region have targeted 13 in total, such as headaches and muscle pain. In average, an infected person was six symptoms, according to data from the regional directorate of public health.
