The economist Éric Girard, who was until recently the first vice-president and treasurer of the National Bank, will wear the colors of the Coalition avenir Québec (CAQ) in the riding of Groulx during the next general election.
The head of the CAQ, François Legault, confirmed his candidacy, Monday afternoon, in Boisbriand.
According to Mr. Legault, Mr. Girard is “a major addition to Quebec”. The Caquist leader said his candidate had worked for National Bank for 25 years and managed, until last Friday, the liquidity, financing and interest rate risk of the institution.
Mr. Legault said that although Mr. Girard is a banker, “who is obviously cautious,” he believes in investing in public schools. He also wants to promote French and considers it important to invest in public transportation.
