Electric rallycross at Trois-Rivières in January

TROIS-RIVIÈRES | The discipline of rallycross, removed from the program of the Grand Prix de Trois-Rivières in 2019, will return to Mauricie next winter.

The event, scheduled for January 21 and 22 , will bring together electric racing cars on an icy track set up on the Hippodrome 3R site.

The one-kilometre track will use the same portion that the cars of the World Rallycross Championship traveled at the time on clay.

Trois-Rivières will be the seventh stage of the Nitro Rallycross, a championship contested on three continents.

Electric cars identified as FC1-X reach particularly high speeds thanks to to their 787 kilowatts of power, which is the equivalent of approximately 1055 horsepower.

Coveted celebrity drivers

“The culmination of this project is the fruit of five years of effort, indicated Dominic Fugère, the general manager of the GP3R. And it is not excluded that a second race, in the summer this time, may be added to our second weekend of competition in August. »

Former Formula 1 driver Scott Speed, converted to rallycross, is committed full-time to this championship.

NASCAR Cup drivers Kyle Busch and Chase Elliott have participated in a few events in the past, in the United States, and the GP3R obviously wants to attract them.

“Our race takes place during the NASCAR off-season, underlined Fugère, see coming to Trois-Rivières. I also think that a certain Jacques Villeneuve, who has already raced in rallycross here, would also be interested. »
