End of sales: “it’s never been so hard, it’s the worst year” says a trader from Bagnols-sur-Cèze

The sales ended Tuesday February 6. In Bagnols-sur-Cèze, traders on Rue de la République complain about the lack of customers, even during sales.

The winter sales were an opportunity to regain some turnover for traders on rue de la République, in Bagnols- sur-Cèze. Missed.

Indeed, for Corrine Felfoldy, manager of the Tendance store, this year, the sales were "catastrophic". In nine years of business here, this is "the worst" that she lived: "I won't make another one. I close at the end of February" she announces. His case is not the only one.

Agnès Pétier, manager of La boutique d'Agnès,< /em> is also forced to close the door: "We're going to close, it's not working. There is no one, even Friday, Saturday, there is not a cat". Vincent Rochetin from the El Sol jewelry boutique, established for 22 years, is also waiting his turn: "It's never been so hard, it's the worst year". Without a solution to the lack of customers, he almost admits defeat: "we too will pass".

"There is no more sales effect"

For these merchants, inflation and online shopping are the main culprits for this desertion on the part of customers. Ève Benezeth, manager of Baby Junior for 24 years, recognizes "that there are no more sales effects . People order on the internet, and with private sales, they no longer wait after that." Same observation for Laëtitia Wadin, manager of the 2e vie store: "There are so many promotions all year round on the internet that we didn't really feel any difference in affluence."

Inflation also has its share of responsibility. In 2023, the inflation rate in France was 4.9% according to INSEE (National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies). Lower purchasing power, which pushes consumers to spend less. Agnès Pétrier appears worried: "People don't have any more money. We can't go shopping anymore."
