“Last summer, with the support of the Foundation “Lake Baikal” was conducted monitoring of water and wading birds, says ecologist Alexander Pavarini, head of the grant competition for young scientists “Baikal initiative”. – On routes 453 kilometers was discovered 24 nesting shorebirds a total population of 15.6 thousand individuals”.
Found among them, and endangered species: black stork, white-tailed eagle, peregrine Falcon, Caspian tern, spoonbill. For example, the protection of the Caspian tern colony is a large bird from the family of gull – more than 900 individuals. A flock of ten spoonbills was found for the first time in 40 years. It is hoped that these birds and will nest on the lake.
