Evening in memory of a university icon

Evening in memory of a university emblem

UPDATE DAY

No need to give the big speech for coach Renaldo Maignan, Thursday evening, to motivate the UQAM basketball players before the scheduled home game against the University Rouge et Or Laval. They all know how special this evening dedicated to the memory of Véronique Laberge is.

Véronique was only 36 when, in August 2021, she died of breast cancer. The one who was responsible for communications for the Citadins, in addition to acting as a commentator for UQAM basketball games, was also a good friend of the coach.

“  Véronique was a bit of an emblem for the Citadins, she was omnipresent for all the sports teams in our program, Maignan said, with emotion. She was also a personal friend and I can say that we lost a beautiful light. We will try to play in his honor. We miss his presence.”

“ She was so involved, it was our ray of sunshine here, for her part qualified the player Alexe Dufresne, who has been playing with the Citadins for six years. You couldn't have been unhappy when you saw Véronique Laberge. »

A Banner and a Fund

In addition to the unveiling of a commemorative banner , the Citadins aim to create the “Fonds Esprit Citadin – Véronique Laberge”. This intends to create an annual scholarship, rewarding an athlete “for his contribution both in his sport and in his academic performance”. and highlighting in passing his combativeness to overcome hardships.

A fundraising campaign is underway. It is possible to make a donation on the web: https://citadins.uqam.ca/fonds-esprit-citadins-veronique-laberge/.

In addition to the match of the women's team, starting at 6 p.m., the men's team will also be in action, starting at 8 p.m., also against the Rouge et Or.
