For the mayor of Montpellier, there is no doubt, it is an "attack". Lucie Castets, announced as future Prime Minister, wants "light to be shed".

Present in Montpellier at the invitation of the Communist Party meeting in summer university, Lucie Castets, expected to be the future Prime Minister, reacted to what happened at the synagogue of La Grande-Motte.“Light must be shed, but if it is an attack, I condemn it in the strongest possible terms.”

“A deliberate act”

For the mayor of Montpellier, Michaël Delafosse, it is an “attack”, a term he has repeated several times times. 

"As soon as I had the information, I spoke to Stéphan Rossignol, the mayor of La Grande-Motte, on the phone. He suggested to me that it was a deliberate act that targeted the synagogue. I want to condemn this act, which is absolutely infamous; it is an additional and very serious manifestation of the anti-Semitism that reigns in our country. I want to express my full support to the judicial authorities so that the perpetrator is arrested as quickly as possible. This type of act is unworthy of our country where everyone should be able to believe in peace. Attacking a place of worship is attacking the Republic. We must be completely firm."
