Camping de Bonhomme will be entertained by out-of-the-ordinary royalty, as drag queens take over the place with the show Glamping , Friday evening.

“ To honor the place, we want to revisit the concept of camping with a good dose of glamour, humor and glitter,” explains Barbada, the artist who will host the evening.

With her friends Jojo Bones, Adriana and Lady Boom Boom, she promises a varied musical performance that will warm up the curious who come to attend.

” We are betting on a summery and family atmosphere, with catchy songs and a French-speaking block. “

The four queens will however have to face an unusual enemy: the cold. Is it possible to combine glam and comfort?

“It’s our biggest challenge, obviously, but it shouldn’t affect performance too much, underlines Barbada. We're going to have to lengthen some costumes! »

« Why not? »

Asked what drives the organization to put forward the art of drag and its craftsmen, the director of Carnival programming, Jérôme Deschênes, answers tit for tat.

“  Why not? he exclaims. It is an art form like any other and we want to include them all, such as circus, dance, music and sculpture. It goes without saying to offer a place of choice to drag. 

The Carnival is not its first experience with this form of artistic expression. Several events have also taken place in collaboration with the cabaret Le Drague in recent years.

Drag queens are also taking part in the night parades for the first time this year.

“We like to break conventions by offering a varied program that will reach as many people as possible. For us, it is important to preserve traditions, such as Bonhomme, the parades and the palace, but it is also crucial to improve our offer with refreshing novelties,” continues Mr. Deschênes.

< p>Barbada and his gang are very happy to be able to express themselves more fully elsewhere than in the light of the cabarets.

“ Drag is very present in the public space and yet, it remains an unknown art. We hope that as many people as possible will take the time to come and see what it really is. »
