The first round of the Catalan Feria took place this Saturday in front of a spectacular field at the Pique de Sobral with three bulls with great potential. Gomez del Pilar cut off an ear and Damian Castaño multiplied the failures with the steels.

Céret has scheduled for its opening bullfight the breeding of Sobral of Cebada Gago and Marquis de Domecq origins. The lot of Portuguese bullfights offered a lively bullfight with three quality bullfights during the faenas (1, 4 and 6) and the cattle showed themselves spectacularly in spades during the 19 matches.

With toros attacking the cavalry from afar with alegria and forcefully hitting the equestrian block even if they did not then show great bravery to put the horses on the back foot. We just regret that the Sobrals were below the usual standards of Céret in terms of size and armor.

The best prize for Damian Castaño

Damian Castaño (applause after notice and silence) hit the best lot of the day with his excellent first which took four spades with momentum. The Sobral was overflowing with class and the Salamanca maestro had the opportunity to draw several deep right-handed series before suffering a long volteretaduring his second series of naturals. Castaño showed beautiful facets of his toreo by stringing together good series even if the brave seemed to allow even better. A total failure with the sword (seven pinchazos) deprived him of a trophy.
His second Sobral was just as spectacular in the spade with four galloping encounters without pushing, but the toro paid for the excesses against the horse in the last tercio. He struggled to push to the end of the passes to come out with his head held high and lacked depth which masked his intrinsic qualities.

Damian Castaño again delivered beautiful sequences but he remained on alternating current because the faena was peppered with approximations. This time he would fail five times with the descabello. In the end, a frustrating bullfight for the Salmantine because he had two bulls to triumph.

An ear for Gomez del Pilar

Gomez del Pilar (hi and ear) n’was not lucky in the sorteo because he won the prize with the fewest d& ;rsquo;options. His first also delivered a spectacular tercio of piques with three encounters where he attacked the horse from afar with a voluntary gallop. The toro lacked depth and struggled to charge after the second pass of each series. But the Spaniard managed to make a few right-handed passes from below when he managed to take advantage of his inertia. Despite his efforts, the faena never grew in intensity and he ended the fight with a back sword.
The winner of the 22 023 feria received his second opponent a porta gayola before dealing out punishment during the three pikes. After a start to the faena where Sobral showed class during the deep and well-chiseled right-handed series of Gomez del Pilar, he would then drop the pace. Always as determined, the bull carried a sword engaged to receive an ear contested by part of the public.
Juan de Castilla (salute after notice and silence after two notices) did not manage to develop a toreo corresponding to the expectations of the Ceret public. His first faena was applied with long deep passes but he never lowered his hand in front of the bull and tended to bullfight on the passage which limited the emotion. Despite a beautiful sword, his reward was summed up in a bow because the public never got into his faena.

The Colombian played a similar score against the last, the most serious bull of the race who seemed to suffer after having violently hit a burladero as he left the toril. The Sobral had a generous charge on the right horn even if he did not really lower his head in the lures. Juan de Castilla remained superficial throughout the faena before experiencing failure with the sword and the descabello.
