The figure of the day: 3
#GARD For three years, around fifteen homes in the Rastel hamlet in Chamborigaud and Génolhac have been virtually cut off from the world after a bridge was washed away by a violent flood of the Luech on October 31, 2021. Only a track, making a detour and difficult to use, allows a connection to the road network.
A footbridge, only for pedestrians, had been built in place of the destroyed bridge. It took three years, after a long battle with the relevant authorities, DDTM in particular, to convince them of the need to rebuild the bridge. After long negotiations, victory was achieved.
Calls for tenders were launched and initial preparatory work is planned for October 2024. It should be completed in January 2025.
Fire on the heights of Minerve: 50 hectares covered
#HERAULT – A little over a hundred firefighters from Hérault were deployed late in the morning on Sunday, September 15, 2024 in Minerve, in an uninhabited area. Reinforcements then arrived from Aude in the afternoon and aerial resources were mobilized. Ten hectares of vegetation were destroyed by the fire driven by a wind blowing at around 20 km/h. The situation, which was not developing favorably in the middle of the afternoon due to gusts of wind at 60 km/h on the heights of the Cathar city, finally improved at the end of the day when the fire was contained. Although the rocky promontory was not threatened by the flames, the smoke could be annoying for the inhabitants. “It is not reassuring at all to see the fire diving from the cliff and approaching us”, testified a local resident. “The flames covered about fifty hectares”, confirmed the Hérault prefecture around 3:30 p.m. Two hamlets were protected and two houses saved by firefighters. Tourist sites were evacuated.

While first aid was being given to the victim, aged around forty, the hosts of the premises immediately contacted the emergency services. But when the firefighters and emergency workers arrived on site, the victim was in cardio-respiratory arrest. Despite a long cardiac massage, they were unable to bring her back to life. Although no suspicious traces of violence were found on her body, the doctor imposed a forensic obstacle, given her young age, so that an autopsy could be performed.
