Fired for trying to arrest thieves

Two employees at a Lululemon branch in the United States have reportedly been fired after trying to prevent a burglary at the sportswear store.

The incident occurred in late April at a branch in Peachtree Corners, Georgia. The two employees allegedly first asked the perpetrators to leave, then chased them when they fled with unpaid items. 

Or , the company has very strict guidelines for its employees regarding behavior that could put them at risk. Employees are therefore prohibited from intervening in the event of burglary. 

“In this particular case, we have a zero tolerance policy on which we train our educators in the event of theft. For what? Because we put the safety of our team and our customers first,” Lululemon CEO Calvin McDonald explained in an interview with CNBC.  

The latter is therefore adamant the company will not reverse its decision to terminate the two employees. 

“The two employees at our Peachtree Corners, Georgia site were not terminated for calling the police . Employees are able and instructed to call 911 when needed, and that was not the cause of the layoff,” Lululemon said in a statement sent to CNN.  

To explain these dismissals, the company cites security reasons since these employees risked putting themselves in danger, but also putting the safety of others at risk.
