First bath of the year at Grau-du-Roi: who will dare to brave the wind and the cold this Sunday ?
|Quelque 300 personnes étaient présentes l'an passé. Le record sera-t-il battu ce dimanche ? Midi Libre – Archives A. P.
Pour sa neuvième édition ce dimanche 7 janvier, le premier bain de l'année battra-t-il son record d'affluence de l'an passé ?
For the 8th edition, in 2023, there were nearly 300 courageous people who donned swimsuits and/or disguises to take part in the first swim of the year organized at Grau-du-Roi. That’s double the number of participants compared to the previous year!
Water which should not exceed 12 °C
Organized by the Rotary club of the bay of Aigues-Mortes, this unusual and festive meeting will begin, like last year, with a warm-up provided by the champion of kitesurfing Nadine Poncet. A warm-up which will not be too much, since the water temperature is estimated at 12 °C by Météo France for this Sunday. A few degrees higher than outside, since in the morning, we should not exceed 9 °C in Grau. And 9 °C to put into perspective, because with wind gusts up to 65 km/h at peak, the feeling will be more like 5 °C!
Mulled wine and fougasse
But at 11 a.m., it will be time to dive into the deep end, as they say. But there's nothing to worry about: the Terre de Camargue firefighters will keep an eye on things, while mulled wine and fougasse will warm bodies and hearts.
