Wastewater treatment:  Maera doubles its capacity

#LATTES – The Lattes wastewater treatment plant, Maera, will double its wastewater treatment capacity. With its 19 municipalities, it is the most important station in the Montpellier Metropolis. Today, it no longer meets the needs which have increased since it was commissioned 20 years ago. The project, which began last July, will continue until 2027. "The processing capacity will increase from 470,000 to the equivalent of 695,000 inhabitants&quot ;, explains Jérôme Colin, director. The treatment will now be carried out in covered buildings, limiting olfactory nuisances.

#MONTPELLIER – For its 27th edition, entry to the International Extreme Sports Festival is paying. Access to the main site, on the banks of the Lez in Montpellier, will cost 10 euros for the general public (5 euros up to 10 years old and 7 euros with the youth card) and will be valid for the duration of the festival, from May 8 to 12. According to the organizers, "after the impact of Covid and inflation, the viability of the event was no longer assured".

Les halles de Béziers close their doors for eight months

#WORK – This Saturday, February 3 at noon, the market halls of Béziers will begin a new era. They will close their doors to the public for eight months of major work. A major renovation for a budget of 16 million euros. In the fall of 2024, Biterrois residents will discover a completely transformed place, separated in two by a large glass wall, and which will be managed, for the first time in its history, by a private service provider, the Biltoki company. Built in 1891 by the architects Carlier in the heart of the city, the halls are "indissociable from the neighborhood", underlines Jean-Michel Du Plaa, a former elected official who has been frequenting the halls for thirty-five years.

New life for the RD2

#SETE – Traffic between Sète and Balaruc-les-Bains, via the RD2, will be transformed. Indeed, Sète Agglopôle Méditerranée will launch major works and reclassify the road as an urban boulevard. "The idea is to create an electric bus line “Express&rdquo ; which will circulate on a 9.6 km reserved lane, from the Sète multimodal exchange hub to that of Balaruc-les-Bains", explains Éric Vandeputt, director of mobility at the Agglo. Buses and trams will have priority over cars. with the aim of encouraging motorists to choose public transport. This busy road receives traffic of around 15,000 vehicles per day. This urban boulevard should be operational from 2027.
