Five asteroids will approach in the next few hours: Earth will see these objects flying in space very closely

In the next few hours on September 17, 2024, five asteroids will pass close to Earth. While they will not impact our planet, some of them could be seen from Europe and Africa tonight.

An asteroid the size of a stadium, another one as big as a house or as tall as a building… the five new alerts from Nasa look like a good start to a disaster movie, and yet: no risk.

In the next few hours, these objects identified a few days ago by the American space agency will pass not far from our planet. The luckiest among us will even be able to observe.

The next five asteroids approaching

In astronomer's jargon, these asteroids are close. To us, however, the distances seem gigantic.

The first measures 290 meters and will pass 999,000 kilometers from our planet. Its name is? 2024ON. The second is just as soberly baptized by NASA experts: 2024RY10. It is 15 meters long and will pass 1,770,278 kilometers from the blue planet.

The next one is barely larger, but will also be 1.5 million from Earth in a few hours, and will not come any closer to us.

The fourth is larger: 150 meters long, and will be 322,000 kilometers from our planet. The last one, finally, will pass “close” from Earth, more than 600,000 kilometers away. It measures no more than twenty meters.

Will we see it??

According to our colleagues at The Independent, this celestial spectacle will be visible from Europe and Africa. To a lesser extent, it will also be possible to see it in some regions of North and South America, as well as in Asia.

So watch out for it: a tiny bright point moving in the sky, but the probability of seeing it remains low. Note that these flying objects do not represent any risk to Earth.
