October 15, 2024, launch of vaccination campaigns against influenza and Covid-19. With the possibility, for the target audience, to receive both vaccine injections on the same day. According to a survey by Public Health France on the adherence of the French to preventive measures against winter viruses, 59% of people eligible for vaccination against Covid-19 intend to get vaccinated.
This is strongly recommended for people aged 65 and over, people (including children) suffering from comorbidities and likely to develop a severe form of the disease, immunocompromised people, pregnant women, residents of nursing homes and long-term care units, all people at very high risk of severe form, those in regular contact with immunocompromised people. Caregivers, emergency services (including firefighters) are also concerned.
The 41% of eligible respondents do not wish to be vaccinated. The lack of effectiveness of the vaccine against new variants, side effects after previous doses are among the main motivations.
Against the flu for those aged 65 and over, but only 39% of people with risk factors for severe forms.
Wearing a mask rejected by 43% of respondents
In addition, 50% of people at risk of severe forms of the flu due to their age (over 65) or their state of health (comorbidities, obesity) say they want to receive both doses of vaccine at the same time, against the flu and against Covid-19. 32% at the same time and 18% at different times.
Finally, 23% of people at risk of severe illness do not want to receive either a dose against the flu or a dose against Covid.
As for barrier gestures, 43% of respondents say they never wear a mask when they have symptoms, in the presence of vulnerable people or in crowded places. Regarding barrier gestures as a whole, these remain very associated with Covid-19.
The majority of respondents could maintain these protective gestures in the event of a return of the epidemic, but also out of a desire not to get sick and not to contaminate their loved ones. The arrival of an epidemic of flu or any other winter illness motivates less than a third of respondents to apply these measures.
