Football: emotions in chaos for the regional finals in Saint-Gaudens

Les finales de Coupe d’Occitanie ont tenu toutes leurs promesses le week-end dernier.

There will have been laughter, tears and sometimes even a little of both. As a symbol of all the emotions that can arise from these major end-of-season events. After several months of competition and hundreds of matches organized in the four corners of the region, the first eight finals of the Coupe d’Occitanie were held last weekend at the foot of the Pyrenees.

And if some experienced this last challenge with the joy and happiness of having shared a final collective emotion, others, conversely, may have -being known is the worst feeling that an amateur footballer can feel. That of disappointed dreams and the end of an epic that we nevertheless hoped would be victorious.

La Clermontaise savors

Diametrically different feelings which have never ceased to oppose victors and vanquished in Saint-Gaudens. While the Héraultais de la Clermontaise, for example, celebrated their victory, with all smiles on their faces, paying tribute to the latest outing of two big names of the club, the contrast with their opponents from Lavaur Football Club was striking. And the distress perhaps even greater among the teams which failed closer to victory, like the U19s of Balma Sporting Club, carried by a two-goal advantage on the hour mark, but finally joined and overthrown at the end of the suspense by the Crocodiles of Nîmes Olympique.

Two more finals

Terrible scenarios for some and magnificent for others, but which also give all the charm to these end-of-season meetings. While waiting for the last two regional finals, this Saturday June 15, for the senior women (5 p.m.) and the futsalleurs (8:30 p.m.). Two last opportunities to fill up on emotions.

Some reactions:

Arnaud Dalla-Pria (president of the League): « These are always great moments of sport and conviviality. The clubs played the game. The atmosphere was excellent and the show was on point. We had a great cup weekend. »

Baptiste Duhau-Marmon (Clermontaise coach) : « It was our last with President Elian Reverbel, we really wanted to finish well and end on something beautiful. This title is the culmination of a very good season with a great group. »

Lilian Verbecke (coach of ASB U18F): « It’s a pretty frustrating ending. We failed on the last step, but the season nevertheless remained positive. Congratulations to the girls for their seriousness and their involvement throughout the last few months. »

Mickaël Gas (U19 coach of Nîmes Olympique): « It was a real cup match, between two very playful teams. Even trailing by two goals, the boys didn't give up. We had a great goalkeeper and an excellent state of mind. It’s great to finish this way with the little ones, I’m really proud of them. »
