Football: in Sète, a ROC Social determined to become solid again

Un nouveau bureau pour donner au club un nouvel élan.

Une assemblée générale extraordinaire a permis une réorganisation du bureau directeur et l’arrivée de nouveaux dirigeants, pour donner un nouveau souffle.

The Sète club more commonly known as "Le Social", like others around Thau, will have experienced a dark season. It is fully part of a difficult period which continues, since in 2020 the "merger-absorption" with Étoile Sportive did not have the expected effects while the club was in Departmental 2. The pandemic had had a lot to do with it and, since then, the “Ciel et blanc” were sailing by sight.

An achievement, then a relegation

If last season began with an exploit in the Coupe de l’Hérault against Pointe-Courte, it ended with relegation to D4. Like others also, staffing problems, added to a highly penalizing discipline, have dragged towards purgatory a club which has been part of the football landscape of the Thau basin for ages.

New heads but maintaining values

Chagrined by the turn of events, the main executives of the association met and took measures to rectify the situation. A new office, a vice-president who is gaining ground, new faces, redistributed functions and ambitions, this is the outcome of an extraordinary general assembly which was held recently.

Laurent Gimenez, until now vice-president, has taken the helm of the club, he will be supported by a faithful among the faithful, Jean-Michel Munoz. On the bench, Franck Munoz is retained as coach. Its main objective, initially, will be to create a group mixing a few old and many new players.

For the new president Laurent Gimenez, Social must react but above all remain itself: « Yes, our primary ambition is recovery. This is our priority but it is accompanied by maintaining our values. Conviviality and the pleasure of playing and being together, this is our essential characteristic ».
