A Pierre and Colette Soulages school inaugurated
#MONTPELLIER – This Monday, September 2, 2024, the young residents of the Boutonnet district of Montpellier discovered their new school, named “Pierre et Colette Soulages”, in homage to the great painter and his wife. This nine-class primary school is housed in the former Ursuline Convent, created in 1679, transformed into a teacher training college in 1832, and finally into a music conservatory over the last three decades. Twenty-eight months of work were necessary for the twenty or so companies mobilized on this particularly demanding construction site. The result is sumptuous, like the old chapel converted into an activity room, with its restored stained glass windows. “We want the Écusson de Montpellier to be not just an Airbnb place, but a place to live with schools and daycare centers”, said Mayor Michaël Delafosse, recalling that Pierre and Colette Soulages met in Montpellier, at the School of Fine Arts which is now the Maison des Relations internationales, during the Occupation.

A return to school in uniform at La Grande-Motte
#HERAULT –The 379 schoolchildren at the André-Malraux school in La Grande-Motte (Hérault) had a somewhat unusual start to the school year on Monday, September 2, 2024, as in around a hundred schools in France. This morning, the nursery school children wore a small dark gray blouse and the primary school children wore Bermuda shorts or a navy blue skirt, a white polo shirt and a blazer. The complete pack also includes a sweatshirt, jogging pants and pants. Other new features for the 12 million students returning to school: the ban on phones in 200 middle schools and the “needs groups” in 6th and 5th grades. The principle: create groups in French and math, separate from the class group, to better adapt to the students. Reform that has raised opposition from unions.

He appeared for passive corruption and favoritism for offenses related to the awarding of public contracts to the Annecy and Nîmes hospitals between 2015 and 2020. Financial prosecutor François-Xavier Dulin criticized the defendant's attitude: “He does not acknowledge the facts, casts anathema on one and all, does not question himself, has not stopped lying.” The court was to deliberate its judgment on the evening of Monday, September 2, after the defense lawyers' arguments.
