German tactician Thomas Tuchel, notably formerly with PSG (2018-2020), will no longer be a coach at Bayern Munich at the end of the season. This is exactly what the Bavarian club announced in a press release this Wednesday, February 21.

Bayern Munich, mired in a deep crisis never experienced for many years, has decided to part ways with its coach Thomas Tuchel at the end of the season, the Bavarian club announced in a press release on Wednesday .

Arrived on the Munich bench at the end of March 2023 to replace Julian Nagelsmann, dismissed to everyone's surprise, Thomas Tuchel had signed a contract until June 30, 2025, the end of the contract which was brought back to June 30, 2024, explained Bayern.

"After open discussions, we came to the conclusion to end our joint work in the summer", explained the chairman of the board, Christian Dreesen, quoted in the club press release.

He couldn't convince

Tuchel will thus still manage a maximum of between 13 and 18 Bayern matches (depending on the course in the Champions League) and will only leave Munich a little over 15 months after joining.

Left behind in the league (8 points behind Bayer Leverkusen twelve days before the end of the season), eliminated in the Cup, beaten in the round of 16 first leg of the Champions League, Bayern is under the threat of living in 2024 a first year without a trophy since 2011.

In 2023, he saved the furniture by winning an eleventh consecutive German championship title, snatching the "Schale" – name of the trophy awarded to the champion – from the hands of Borussia Dortmund in the 89th minute of the last day on a goal by Jamal Musiala.

An almost unprecedented negative series

Bayern experienced a nightmare sequence with a slap received ten days ago on the pitch of Bayer Leverkusen (3-0) for the shock at the top of the Bundesliga, then a defeat on the pitch of Lazio in Rome (1-0) in the round of 16 first leg of the Champions League, and finally a setback to Bochum (3-2) which is fighting for its survival.

The Munich players had not experienced such a negative series since the end of the 2014/15 season, two setbacks in the league interspersed with a defeat in the semi-finals of the Ligue 1. champions in Barcelona.

And again, at the time the title of champion had already been assured for a long time. This sequence began with an elimination from the Cup in the semi-finals in Dortmund, on penalties.

With 63.64% of victories currently, Thomas Tuchel records the worst winning percentage among the 4 coaches who preceded him: Julian Nagelsmann 71.43%, Hansi Flick 81.40%, Niko Kovac 69.23% and Jupp Heynckes 78.05%.
