Formerly of Midi Libre and among the founding members of the Friends of the Fabre Museum in Montpellier, Robert Robertier has left us

It is with sadness that we learn of the death of Robert Robertier, former technical executive at the headquarters of our title. Joining Midi Libre in 1946, at the age of 20, a few years after the creation of the newspaper, within the historic headquarters, rue d’Alger, in Montpellier, he was first of all a typographer, linotype maker, secretary general of the book union, before being promoted to technical manager. In this position, he was a crucial part of the shift from lead-based manufacturing to manufacturing. from newspaper to digital, a period also corresponding with the move of the headquarters from rue d’Alger to Mas de Grille, at the end between 1979 and 1980. Initially a trainer in these new techniques within the composition workshop, he was then responsible for the quality and proofreading department that he had created, in close collaboration with the editor-in-chief.

Founding member of the Friends of the Fabre Museum

In 1986, upon his retirement, he was able to devote himself to his passion: culture. Passionate about art and curious about science, he was very active in the Montpellier community, and was one of the founding members, with his wife Claude, of the Association Les Amis du Musée Fabre. A stroke in 2015 then deprived him of all activities. It was at his home, surrounded by his family, including his son, Jean-Loup Robertier, a former journalist in the sports department, that he passed away, in his sleep, at the ;rsquo;age of 97 years old on the night of Monday to Tuesday.

With its disappearance, the year in which Midi Libre celebrated its 80th anniversary, a bit of the memory of the title was gone. Also to his son, Jean-Loup, as well as to all his family and loved ones, Midi Libre presents its most sincere condolences.

The funeral ceremony will take place in the omnicult room of the Grammont funeral complex, on Thursday, May 16, at 9:30 a.m.
