France: Seven children and their mother die in house fire

UPGRADE DAY

Seven children aged 2 to 14 died with their mother in the night from Sunday to Monday in the fire at their house in Charly-sur-Marne, about a hundred kilometers east of Paris, we learned from the gendarmerie and the fire brigade.

The father of this blended family, seriously burned, was extracted from the dwelling, located in the center of this town of 2,600 inhabitants, and transferred to the hospital, added the gendarmerie and firefighters.

The children, five girls and two boys, and their parents slept on the 2nd floor of this house of town when the fire broke out, police said. The firefighters were notified at 00:52 (23:52 GMT) by a call from neighbors.

Four of the children were from the mother's first union, the gendarmerie said.

The fire was extinguished in the early morning, according to the gendarmerie.

The last similar tragedy dates back to the night of December 15 to 16, with the death of six people including four children in the fire of a seven-storey condominium located in a popular district undergoing urban renewal in Vaulx-en-Velin, near Lyon (south-east).
