FREE MIDI INFO. The Aresquiers bridge will not close, the Maison du littoral project near Sète revised downwards
|Modification prévue autour du pont des Aresquiers et de la Maison du littoral à Vic-la-Gardiole Midi Libre – VINCENT ANDORRA
Midi Libre provides a preview of the results of the consultation and decisions of the Hérault department regarding the Maison du littoral and traffic on the Aresquiers bridge.
The results of the consultation on the Maison du littoral in Vic-la-Gardiole and its corollary, namely traffic on the Aresquiers bridge, are presented this Thursday, February 15 at 6 p.m. in the Vicoise village hall. However. Midi Libre is able to reveal its content to you in preview.
The project is reoriented
The summary that we can make is: behind all. In a report, dated December 13, from the president of the Department to the permanent commission of the institution, we speak, in fact, of "reorientation of the project" which, for the record, was launched at the time by Pierre Bouldoire, former mayor of Frontignan and first vice-president of the Departmental Council. According to this document, the consultation, which was held from March to June 2023, revealed that "the project site, a center of’ general public interpretation (read elsewhere, Editor’s note)received mixed support from the public, mainly local, who most often focused on the question of access, and from institutional or associative partners whose role in the project remained to be clarified."
Contradiction between preservation of the site and influx of public
On the other hand, support was "strong and general from the prism of coastal environmental issues and the interest in highlighting it& ;quot;, and at the same time the budgetary envelope – 17 M€ – was considered too high. The results of the consultation also show "questioning which focused a lot on the support measures for the project, and in particular the regulation of access to Aresquiers (…) with a form of contradiction: regulating attendance on this sensitive site while the project would generate an additional flow of public". In fact, a closure of traffic on the Aresquiers bridge had been considered. Which caused a great outcry…
A site mainly dedicated to research
Thus, it appears necessary to "reconfigure the site project" planned at the Domaine du Mas Vieux. The place would become a space"for educational and research purposes, mainly dedicated to public institutions and their partners. It would thus become a resource center on coastal issues. Its general public vocation would therefore be reoriented." Goodbye then "the general public parking area and the public sales/reception area". Bye bye, the "large exterior fittings". Hello "the redefinition of interior spaces" and the "programmatic adjustments with the aim of win several million euros on the initial estimate of 17 million euros".
What was the project at the start ?
The Maison du littoral aux Aresquiers, at Mas Vieux in Vic-le-Gardiole, aims to promote the human and natural heritage of the area while raising public awareness of preservation issues. With a budget of 17 million euros, it was planned to accommodate groups, including school groups; a place for permanent and temporary exhibitions, all linked to one or more aspects of the site (environment, viticulture, gastronomy, built heritage, etc.); without forgetting an interpretation center on coastal issues, through an adapted museographic project.
A work on the attendance of Aresquiers
We no longer talk about the fate of the Aresquiers bridge. However, it is envisaged to "continue the partnership work for a preservation strategy for the Aresquiers site by disconnecting from the specific project of the Maison du Littoral, the question of access to the site and its attendance."
