Frontignan town hall renews its action to support small fishing professions

Lors du dernier conseil municipal de Frontignan, il a été décidé de continuer à prendre en charge 92 % des frais d’appontement des petits métiers de la pêche.

This has been going on for twenty years. And it’s not the seven small fishing businesses in Frontignan who are going to complain about it. The city's last municipal council renewed its support for the sector by covering 92% of the landing costs for these maritime professionals.

14,500 € supported by the municipality

These costs represent a total of 14 500 € per year and are therefore covered by the municipal budget. "It appears that the traditionally heaviest cost item in the budget of these professions, the price of fuel, is always at a high level and all the professional expenses of these farms cause just as much inflation as the rest of the economy", explains the deliberation on which the elected officials leaned towards. "Under these conditions, the sustainability of small fishing professions does not seem any more assured than before".

A provision revived for five years

The City therefore considers that "the general interest which governed the assumption of part of the jetty costs by the general budget of the city remains: this presence is a source of animation of the marina but also a source of supply and participates fully in the local culture. Voted unanimously, this deliberation therefore renews this measure carried out by the municipality for a period of five years. This is already assured for sea professionals grouped at the end of the western part of the marina, in a space which has also been renovated and redeveloped as part of the modernization of the maritime enclosure of the Muscatière city.
