Youtube has a trailer for the film “Goalie” about legendary canadian hockey goalkeeper Terry Savchuk, star years of his career which occurred in 50-60-ies of the last century.

The Ukrainian-born Terrence (Taras) Savchuk, began to play hockey after the death of his older brother Michael, who died from heart disease, inherited his old goalie pads.

Not having by nature strong, healthy Taras at a young age, it was a training accident right hand, which after three surgeries was almost 5 inches shorter than the left. But this injury did not prevent the choice of a career as a professional hockey player and became the first in the endless list of broken bones. There were about 60, and a pile with many different injury.

From the direct hit of a puck left eye Terry after the surgery and never really recovered. At 23, he was diagnosed with arthritis. Was later a punctured lung and broken ribs in a car accident, torn tendons of the hand. In his youth, sawchuk underwent emergency appendectomy. During the career he’s had the offset discs of the spine. Also doctors diagnosed Terri mononucleosis (acute infectious disease of the blood, which results in lymphadenopathy, accompanied by fever and sore throat). Savchuk was tormented by damage to the nervous system, insomnia and constant headaches. His body had more than 600 stitches to approximately 400 scars, nerve damage to both legs, groin injury, a pathological increase of lumbar lordosis and thoracic kyphosis, “round back.”

But owing to injuries Savchuk has created his own unique style of goalkeeping. More precisely, what he had to do it. While most of his colleagues on the field, standing at the gate, rising to her full height. And Terry in the front were bent in the belt almost at a right angle.

The fact that only after two successive operations on his back in 1966 Savchuk for the first time in years was able to simply straighten up and walk like healthy people.

At the same time, Taras was able to achieve amazing results: during the 21-season spent 1 034 matches, including the Cup. And in three seasons, Terry has participated in all meetings of their team. Won 447 wins in regular season, particularly a record 103 dry, was voted the best goalkeeper in the NHL in 1952, 1953, 1955 and together with Bauraum in 1965, became a Stanley Cup winner 1952 1954 1955, 1967.

His record of 103 shutouts lasted 39 years until, in 2009-m year, he did not beat canadian Martin Brodeur.

Sawchuk died may 31, 1970 from injuries sustained during a fight with a teammate during an altercation in a bar at 40 years of age.

Note that earlier teaser for the film, tentatively titled “UKE” introduced a young but already well-known documentary Vladimir Mule and Vasilkov Nicholas. Analogues of this film in Ukraine was not yet. The authors traveled the United States and Canada, met with the most famous canadian and American hockey players of Ukrainian origin, of the caliber of Wayne Reck and johnny Bozic. The process of making the film is in the final phase.
