Google announced changes to requirements to design application icons. Into Android 8.0 Oreo, the company has added support for adaptive icons to unify the appearance of the system, but the result is not given.
Now the search giant has put forward more strict requirements to bring order in the Google Play, reports the online edition of the Chronicle.info with reference to 24tv.ua.
With effect from 1 April, developers will be able to download in the Google Play console application icons that correspond to the new design. May 1, Google will no longer take icons that do not meet the new standards.
Until June 24 all icons that developers will not update, will be automatically converted into obsolete. This innovation is introduced to ensure uniformity in the Google Play store. Similar requirements are present in Apple’s App Store.
As before, the icon size will remain 512 x 512 pixels, but under the new rules, a transparent background would be prohibited. Google Play for Android and Chrome OS will dynamically apply rounded corners and shadows to the icons. Corner radius will be 20% of the size of the icons.
While these changes only affect Android and Chrome OS, whereas OS Wear, Android TV and Android Auto developers don’t need to follow a single style. Learn more about the new requirements, with examples, can be found on Google.
