Guatemala : deux volcans en éruption placés sous surveillance

The volcanoes of Fuego and Pacaya, in the south of Guatemala, entered in eruption and have been placed on Tuesday under surveillance, has announced the civil protection of guatemala.

Explosions and rumblings occur in the bowels of the two volcanoes, which emit lava, have found the specialists of the Institute of Volcanology, said to the press the spokesman of the national Coordination for disaster reduction (Conred), David de Leon.

For the moment, it is not in the process of evacuation preventive populations potentially at risk, said the spokesman.

The volcano de Fuego, which stands at 3763 metres, and situated at 35 km south-west of the capital, has recorded in the night of Monday to Tuesday, “an explosive activity (…) audible” in its surroundings, which shook the windows and the roofs of tin houses.

As to the Pacaya (2552 meters above sea level and is located 20 km south of Guatemala city), it has issued in recent days of large flows of lava accompanied by explosions, said Mr. De Leon.

An eruption of the volcano Fuego has caused in June 2018 in one of the worst disasters in Guatemala : a cloud burning down the flanks of the volcano had killed 202 villagers and 229 others have been reported missing.

The last eruption of Pacaya, on may 27 and 28, has killed a television journalist reached by poisonous gases during a report.

Guatemala another active volcano, the Santiaguito (west), but its activity is currently considered as normal by specialists.
