On 30 July 2024, a Dutch tourist died in Mallorca after suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning. The exhaust pipe of a gas boiler in the holiday home was blocked by a bird's nest.
The holiday turned into a nightmare for these Dutch tourists. A 21-year-old man died after suffering from carbon monoxide poisoning. The tragedy occurred in the holiday home of the group of friends, but the exhaust pipe of the gas boiler in the holiday home was blocked by a bird's nest, reports the media outlet AD. nl.
Intoxicated
It had been several days since the group of friends from the Netherlands had been in Spain, in Majorca to be precise. After a night out, Angello decided to take a shower when he got back from the party. But the next day, another young man found him lying on the bathroom floor and no longer breathing.
Despite the intervention of the emergency services, the young man could not be resuscitated and his death was declared on the scene. The police, also present at the scene, carried out investigations to find out what happened. Officers discovered a bird's nest made of leaves and twigs that was preventing combustion gases from the house's boiler from escaping, Spanish law enforcement said.
“It seems that the landlord was negligent in maintenance and that Angelo was the victim,”, said a family member of the victim. “They didn't need more than a bed and a pool, they came to party. Of course, we're not going to check the boiler when we arrive. “Nobody does it,” he added.
The emotion
Angello's loved ones are in shock and are sharing their sadness on social media. “We inform you that our son, brother, uncle, brother-in-law, nephew and friend has left us far too soon and completely unexpectedly following a fatal accident”, it reads.
"I don't want any more victims because of this. “We wouldn't wish that on anyone,” the family member said.
